Question

What is a competence?

Answer

The competences described in the Speech, Language and Communication Framework are a description of the skills and knowledge that everyone in the children’s workforce should have or aim for. Those at the higher levels relate to specialised learning around SLCN at a postgraduate level.
Each competence is the agreed level of skill or knowledge that would be suitable for each stage of the framework.
There is a useful matrix of the three stages together that clearly shows the hierarchical development of the competences across each stage.
