Question
I’m a headteacher – should all my staff do this or just the teachers?
Answer
The Speech, Language and Communication Framework is relevant for everyone who works with children and young people. Within a school setting this could involve teachers, teaching assistants, lunchtime supervisors, kitchen and premises staff as well as non class based managers and administrative staff.
Evaluating the existing knowledge and skills about speech, language and communication across the school could help inform your school improvement planning and/or continual professional development of your staff. It would make sense to involve everybody at this stage so you have a very clear baseline from which to work.
