Question
I’m a primary school teacher – what level should I be at?
Answer
There is no prescription within the framework as to what stage of competence a particular category of professional should be at. However as a primary school teacher, we would encourage you to initially evaluate your own skills and knowledge at the universal stage and identify areas for development. Most classrooms have at least two children with additional speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), so working towards the competences at the enhanced stage would enable you to feel confident in your work with these children as well as supporting all children’s speech, language and communication.
